Due to modding constraints, the AP is awarded to the shared XCOM pool rather than to the individual soldier pools. By default, you will receive 2 Ability Points for every max rank soldier on the mission, but this is adjustable in the config files. If you win a mission and there is at least one maximum-rank soldier, a dialog box will open at the end of the mission before the mission summary. Overflow Ability Points allows players to gain extra ability points in the late-game by bringing max rank soldiers on missions.
